Business Capability Mapping in Education
Australian Education Institution
The Story
The Challenge
We are an Australian education institution going through a large-scale transformation. Our teams don't have a common language to define what our core business capabilities are, and this is creating a challenge to deliver on our strategic objectives.
Our Approach
In collaboration with the institution, ADAPTOVATE developed a Business Capability Framework.
- Co-created a target-state business capability map using the existing strategy, level-1 process, and KPI driver tree
- Identified the least-developed and core business capabilities most critical for success
- Mapped transformation program releases to understand which capabilities would be delivered or improved in each release, and resolved sequencing implications
- Mapped the IT architecture onto the business capability model to understand which systems needed to be modernised to deliver the critical capabilities, and the sequencing of that modernisation
Outcomes
ADAPTOVATE delivered a target-state Business Capability Framework and operating model that gave the institution a common language and the clarity to sequence its transformation and IT modernisation — prioritising the capabilities most critical to delivering its strategic objectives.
“Thank you ADAPTOVATE for taking the extra time to explain things and work through ideas. I'm really excited about the Operating Model and Capability Framework and the opportunities having that clarity presents; most interestingly, how many people I now have wanting to engage with it. When I look back at my time, this will be one of my biggest achievements, I believe.”
