Our team is the greatest asset we have, and it’s a privilege to share just a little bit more about who they are. This month we feature Grace Rikard-Bell, from our Australian team.

First up - how long have you worked with us? 

I started in July 2022

Why did you join us? Were you in the industry previously, or looking for a new career direction?

I spent a decade working in media and marketing across London and Australia before deciding it was time for a new challenge. While completing my MBA, I was inspired by leaders I’d worked with at Nova and News Corp who had such strong strategic vision, and I knew I wanted to move closer to that space myself. 

ADAPTOVATE felt like the perfect fit. It combines the values of a small, close-knit company with the reach and experience of a global firm. A colleague from my MBA program, who was already with ADAPTOVATE, spoke so highly of the culture that I knew I had to explore it. Everyone I met during the interview process was so welcoming, and I even enjoyed the challenge of cracking a live case in an hour. That sealed the deal for me. 

How has your previous experience and career helped define where you are now? Would you have done things differently?

My experience has very much defined me and how I work. Media was an industry in constant change, from print to digital, then mobile and video, and it taught me how to adapt quickly, which is just as important in professional services. 

Working with clients to align strategy to execution and pitching in competitive markets gave me a real appreciation for making strategy practical. My MBA helped me connect those lessons to a broader strategic lens and set me up well for consulting. 

I wouldn’t do things differently. Each role has taught me something important, and I’ve been fortunate to work with some very talented and generous people along the way. 

Which talent would you most like to have?

I wish I had the talent for languages. Being able to switch effortlessly between different cultures and conversations would open up so many experiences. 

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

It’s a bit of a stretch, but I’d say David Attenborough. His curiosity, humility, and ability to connect people to the bigger picture of the world is something I really admire. He reminds me of the power of storytelling and of staying endlessly curious. 

What do you most value in your friends and in colleagues - and are they different things?

With friends, it’s all about humour, loyalty and a sense of fun, the people who can make you laugh and who are always there when it counts. At work, I value many of the same things, but I’d add collaboration and trust. When you’re surrounded by colleagues who support each other and enjoy the journey, it makes the work so much more rewarding. 

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

I just got back from a family holiday to Fiji with my husband and three kids, and it was pretty close to perfect. Days filled with swimming, beautiful sunsets, the kids’ joy as they tried new things, snorkelling adventures, and margaritas in the pool. That mix of family, fun and new experiences is my idea of happiness. 

What is your greatest extravagance

I’m not really one for material extravagance, but I do love to travel. Ski trips and experiencing new places and cultures are where I choose to indulge. 

What is your motto?

Life is short, have fun. 

Finally - You've time travelled back to your 10-year-old self - What advice would you give?

Stay curious, it will take you far.
