Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre (WSMRC)

The Story

The Challenge

As part of its Pledge 1% commitment, ADAPTOVATE supported the Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre (WSMRC) — an Australian not-for-profit formed in 1979, with 36 staff and 145 volunteers, that offers casework and community programs (settlement, aged-care and employment support, families and children, financial support and community capacity building) for migrants, refugees and diverse communities.

  • The board lacked visibility of whether the organization was delivering on its mission and working on the right priorities. Management wanted clear success measures aligned with the strategy and future growth areas
  • The organization is set to grow significantly over the next few years, and the board wanted to ensure it continues to meet client needs and addresses cultural, financial and governance issues during this growth period

Our Approach

Through two half-day workshops over two months with the CEO and the board, we:

  • Provided training on Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), including their purpose and what good OKRs look like
  • Identified the organization's high-level objectives and aligned the leadership team on key priorities for the upcoming year
  • Co-developed OKRs aligned with the strategy and future direction of the organization to increase transparency of progress and measure social impact

Outcomes

The engagement delivered a 90% reduction in the time taken for the leadership team to align on priorities, a 35% increase in confidence and alignment after the workshop (from a 50% to an 85% average score), and a 50% increase in objectives that are measurable and quantifiable (from 50% to 100%).
